The show focused on the murder of school student Hae Min Lee in Baltimore, Maryland and the conviction of her boyfriend for her murder. The real-life crime story focused on the case against Adnan Syed and whether he was guilty or not.

When first broadcast it because the fastest podcast to reach 5 million downloads in the history of iTunes, topping the chart in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia, and reaching the top 10 in Germany, India and South Africa.

The show created an amazing following with schools tuning in as part of lessons, Reddit followers sorting through evidence, debating and discussing on a forum about trying to solve the crime and even podcasts that had been created about the podcast!

So how did a 15 year old murder case capture the attention of so many listeners?
