When something manages to achieve its own ‘international day’, you know the subject has reached a revered status. And none so more than podcasts, which, on 30th September, enjoyed their own ‘International Podcast Day’.
The marked day of podcast celebration recognises the prolific growth of this increasingly popular audio medium, which, according to research sees some 75 million people listen to podcasts around the world every month.
International Podcast Day is a celebration of the power of podcasts, which encourages people to spread the world and share their enthusiasm towards podcasts. The day was founded in 2014 as the National Podcast Day, which was celebrated with 6 hours of broadcasting. Though the day was quickly rebranded as International Podcast Day, in relation to this form of communication being an international phenomenon.
As the International Podcast Day website notes:
“Between 2015 and 2017, we broadcasted 100 hours around the globe inviting podcasters and industry leaders from 55 different countries to share their podcast journeys, personal stories, and expertise. It is important to recognize the history but move forward celebrating the power of podcasts.”
